Discover Professor Lidia Morawska.
Horizon Blue was commissioned to produce and film this 3-mn portrait film for the UNESCO Women in Science 2023 International Awards.
L
‘Oreal, the sponsor for these Awards and the client for this film has a strong legacy in supporting women in science.
In this film, we have the opportunity to feature Lidia Morowska, a Polish-Australian physicist and distinguished professor at the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, at the Queensland University of Technology and director of the International Laboratory for Air Quality and Health at QUT.
She was also the Laureate and winner for the Asia-Pacific Region for the L’Oreal Women in Science 2023. The recipient was recognised for her work on air quality and the fight against dangerous pathogens and ultra-fine particles. Her contribution was particularly critical during the SARS and COVID-19 outbreaks in which the infectious and airborne nature of the virus was highlighted and enshrined in the WHO guidelines.
The film was a delicate balance of portraying not only the scientist but also the woman behind this inspirational work. We worked with fluid and slowed-down cinematic shots, naturally lit scenes, and working with a top make-up artist, selecting costumes carefully with each scenes to ensure the quality and brand standards of L’Oreal were upheld.
This was shot over 2 days in Brisbane with various camera support tools such as drone, gimbal stabiliser and supplemented with a series of professional photographs to accompany the Awards promotional brochures and graphics.
